Marcus J Ball has been campaigning to criminalise lying in politics since June 2016. He is the private prosecutor who prosecuted Boris Johnson for alleged Misconduct in Public Office, in an attempt to set a precedent that lying in politics was a criminal offence. He is the producer and presenter of an upcoming documentary film about lying in politics and the fight to make it illegal. The UK government is now criminalising lying by the Prime Minister, ministers and nearly all public officials with the new “Misleading the Public” offence in the Public Office (Accountability) Bill. He is campaigning to strengthen it using his experience prosecuting Johnson and extend it to all lawmakers and judges.
